Summer Fellowship

Biodontics® Summer Fellowship Program at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine

Rapid technological change and shifting market conditions has challenged the American dental education system. During the 20th century, the practice of dentistry remained relatively static. New products and technologies were introduced at a pace that allowed dentists to practice using the procedures acquired in dental school and complete their careers acquiring only a minimum of new products and equipment. The arrival of the 21st century has changed everything. Suddenly the existing methods and procedures that have served us well are being questioned.

In order to meet the increased demand for the introduction of new products into dental practice, the Biodontics® Summer Fellowship Program has been developed and is being offered at the University of Connecticut, School of Dental Medicine.

The Biodontics® program promotes innovations in oral health through an educational program focused on the research and development of products, technologies and equipment. The Fellowship provides opportunities for interaction with representatives of the dental industry, faculty, entrepreneurs, and practitioners, including hands-on experience with state-of-the-art technologies. The program includes the following unique features:

  • Guest lectures and seminars from dental scientists and entrepreneurs

  • Factory and company tours, where the Fellows are introduced to dental industry’s new product lines and technology developments, including the R&D, production and design processes

  • Demonstrations of emerging new products and technologies

  • Before completion of the program, the Fellows will have an opportunity to develop a proposal for the development of a new product or technology for clinical dentistry

The Biodontics® course has limited space available and is accepting students who have completed their first or second year of dental school. The 2008 course will begin on June 30, will run through July 25, 2008, and will be presented at the University of Connecticut, School of Dental Medicine in Farmington, Connecticut. Students interested in attending must commit to the entire four-week program to be considered for acceptance.
